Feast of the Lupercalia

Long before St. Valentine's Day, the Romans celebrated the feast of the Lupercalia, a feast of purification, health, and fertility, on February 15. The Luperci were noble young men between the ages of 20 and 40 who took part in the purification ritual itself. Afterwards, Plutarch writes, "many of the noble youths . . . run up and down through the city naked, for sport and laughter striking those they meet with shaggy thongs." Hmmmm. Here are some likely-looking Lupercalian celebrants from Bel Ami. Swing those shaggy thongs, boys!

  1. love orgias! it's like a great buffet!

  2. Great those BelAmi guys! :-)

  3. Quelle orgie sublime, ça donne envie de s'y frotter!!
